Grassroots : Big Shots 5 names to know
Prep Hoops took in a few tourneys this weekend in the Palmetto State.
Prep Hoops takes a look at some players that you might not know much about
from Big Shots-Columbia in this article.
Harrison Whatley (2018) – Porter Gaud – TMP
Whatley plays on a very talented TMP team with Josiah James, Jake Lanford, Aaron
Nesmith, Shaquan Davis and Jalen Slawson. Whatley plays at Porter Gaud in Charleston.
Whatley a face-up 4 man has the ability to stretch the defense with his 17-19 feet game that
he shows. Whatley can finish inside the paint when given the chance.
Tyrek Epps (2018) – Lake City – TMP (pictured on front)
Epps is a virtual unknown player on the circuit. Epps a 5’8 point guard sees the floor really well
and can score it when given the chance on this squad. Epps has no know problems getting into
the paint today. Epps averaged 13.4 ppg, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals this season for the Panthers.
Melvin McKie
Melvin McKie (2018) – South Aiken – Carolina Chaos
McKie was first seen by Prep Hoops back last summer in a AAU event. McKie at just 5’9 has
a great motor from end to end. McKie shows a nice mid-range jumper and a great desire to
just playing the game with always a smile and a positive attitude.
Malachi Johnson
Malachi Johnson (2017) – Military Magnet (North Charleston) – Premier Jammers
Johnson is a late bloomer and stands at 6’7 (220). Johnson a raw talent can really run the
floor and shows a better defensive game than offensive right now. Johnson has
the ability to block shots and really seems to work hard down in the post. Johnson averaged 8.4 ppg
and 4.5 rebounds this past season. Johnson informed Prep Hoops he plans on attending
Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA. Valley Forge Military Academy is a NJCAA D2 program.
Noah Fowler
Noah Fowler (2017) – Wade Hampton (Greenville) – Upward Stars Unsigned
Fowler was hot all weekend with his shooting behind the arc. Fowler dropped 32 points in a game
vs Team United SC yesterday. Fowler averaged 10 ppg and 5 rebounds this season for the Generals.
Fowler carries a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
