Adidas All-American Tournament Recap (Class of 2020 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2020 point guards/wings from last weekend’s Adidas All-American Tournament in St. Louis
Point Guards
Key’Sean Taylor 5’11” Gateway Prep (IL): Talented point guard from Collinsville (IL) who earned Co-MVP honors after leading his team to the 15U championship. The smooth lefty knows how to run a team with his ball handling and passing ability. Taylor could break down opposing defenders off the dribble and find the open man. He also had the ability to get buckets.
Tyus Reddin 5’8″ SEMO Bulls: An athletic little point guard from Cape Girardeau who plays much bigger than his actual size. He was fast, very athletic with a super-quick first step which enabled him to blow by defenders and into the lane, where he was comfortable among the trees. Reddin also had a nice stop and pop jumper from the mid range, where he could get excellent elevation.
Casey Jones 5’5″ Arsenal Hoops: The diminutive point guard from Hazelwood West has a strong, physical body packed in is 5’5″ frame. He is strong with the ball and capable of getting into the lane through contact. Jones can also knock down an open 3-point shot. He is also a very capable on-ball defender.
Jordan Smith 5’9″ STL Kings: An athletic point guard from Lutheran North who had the ability to get in the lane just about any time he wanted with his speed and quick first step to the basket. Smith did a nice job finishing around the basket. He was much more comfortable as a slasher than a perimeter shooter.
Dayton Turner 5’8″ T.E.M. Select: A quick point guard from Washington who was always on the go. He operates well at a fast pace and he did an excellent job of attacking the basket with dribble penetration.
Wings
Sam Richardson 6’4″ Gateway: An athletic wing player from Hancock with excellent length and a nice overall skill set. Richardson’s size and ability enabled him to play all three perimeter positions comfortably. He handles the ball well and had the ability to jump up and shoot over smaller defenders and get by bigger ones off the dribble. He also has the potential to be a lock-down defender.
Adam Sommer 6’3″ Gateway: A nice-sized guard from Parkway South who can score from the wing, but also played a lot of point guard over the weekend. He did a nice job of using his body and size to keep those pesky little guards away from his dribble. He is a versatile scoring threat with the ability to knock down 3-pointers.
Kendall Thomas 6’2″ Memphis Trojans: A big bodied guard who was comfortable playing anywhere on the court throughout the tournament. Thomas played point guard when his team needed ball handling. He also went inside and got buckets when the team needed a boost in the paint. He could pass the ball well and make his teammates better.
Jeffrey Reid 6’3″ STL Kings: Long, wing player from Hazelwood Central who had an impressive weekend with his ability to slash to the basket and either finish at the rim or get to the free throw line. Reid also did a fine job as a rebounder.
Braeden Pursell 6’3″ Arsenal Hoops: A good sized wing player from DuQuoin (IL) with an impressive stroke from 3-point range. He had the ability and the confidence to shoot the ball from just about anywhere.
