Adidas All-American Tournament Recap (Class of 2018 Wings)
Here are some of the top wing players from last weekend’s Adidas All-American Tournament in St. Louis.
Tony Burks 6’2″ Showtime Elite: The shooting guard from St. Mary’s displayed his all-around ability to get buckets throughout the weekend. He was very good at shooting on the move and getting into tight spaces and created shots and making them. His finishing ability is really on display when he was able to get out in transition. Burks was also good on the defensive end.
Cameron Williams 6’4″ Gateway: The athletic wing from Hazelwood Central was the Energizer Bunny from the tournament. He operated on a full tank of gas every minute he was on the floor as he ran the court, played tenacious defense and rebounded with great intensity. Much of his offense came in the transition game or on daring drives to the basket in the halfcourt. Williams never took a play off all weekend.
Hayden Sprenkel 6’2″ SEMO Storm: The shooting guard from North County (Bonne Terre) was the premiere 3-point marksman in the tournament. Sprenkel hit several shots from way well beyond the 3-point line. Opposing defenders just didn’t get the fact that he could pull the trigger from nearly 30 feet and he made them pay. He moves well without the ball and his stroke was consistent over the three-day period.
Mitch Fairless 6’4″ T.E.M. Select: The jumping jack wing from Duchense enjoyed a very productive tournament. Fairless had great success attacking the basket and finishing with consistency throughout the weekend. He was tremendous on the break, but he also got to the rim in the half court offense for tough finishes. He is also a good 3-point shooter off catch. If he can develop a middle game, look out.
Josh Pritchett 6’3″ South Central Fury: A solid all around guard from Rolla who can score and pass the ball and make his teammates better. He has a good feel for the game, especially on the offensive end. He knows how to create subtle contact with defenders to create space. He handles the ball well and he knocked down a number of jumpers from 3-point range.
Brendan Gillmann 6’4″ St. Louis Shooting Stars: The slender wing player from Oakville was one of the top perimeter shooters in the tournament. Gillmann shot the ball well off the catch, whether he was coming off screens or in the transition game. He did a nice job of moving without the ball and getting to the open spots.
Brendan Hardy 6’3″ SEMO Storm: A fine scoring wing from Farmington, Hardy drilled a number of 3-pointers throughout the weekend, but he also has the ability to score as well. He is capable of putting the ball on the floor and getting to the basket and hitting the pull up jumper. He moves well without the basket, much like the rest of his team, which played with excellent chemistry and ball movement.
Jaquan Adams 6’2″ Gateway Prep (IL): A strong shooting guard from Bethalto (IL), who has the ability to score the ball and make plays all over the court. He is strong on the drive where he can finish through contact, plus he has the ability to knock down pull up jumpers. He is a good finisher in traffic. Was also impressed with his ability to rebound as well.
Darius Dorsey 6’2″ Jets-Ramey United: A strong, slashing shooting guard from CBC who attacked the basket with great consistency during the weekend. He loaded up and he was coming at you at every opportunity and he did an excellent job of finishing or drawing fouls and getting several And 1’s.
Kobe Smith 6’4″ St. Louis Majestics: A strong wing player from Ritenour with good size and offensive ability. Smith showed the ability to catch and shoot from 3-point range. He also has solid handles and he used his size to get to the basket and create mid range jumpers.
