Class A
Hemingway 72, Lewisville 71
Desmond Pressley scored a game-high 21 points to close his career on top at Hemingway. Pressley made up for last year’s defeat to Calhoun County. Darius Williams had 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Tigers. Hemingway outscored Lewisville 23-17 in the third quarter to take a 49-45 lead after trailing 28-26 at the half. The Tigers went on a 7-0 run to build a 60-50 lead with 4:26 left in the game. Pressley fouled out with 2:24 left in the game. The Lions cut the lead two with 10 seconds remaining. When Trey Keels was fouled, and had two free-throw shots to tie the game at 72, he missed the first one and then made the second to cut the lead to one. Lewisville fouled Darius Taylor with 3.2 seconds left. Taylor miss the first one and Keels rebounded it, but the Lions didn’t get a shot off and Hemingway walked away your 2017 Class A State Champions.
Class 5A
Dorman 55, Blythewood 53
A Zach Butler layup with less than :10 seconds to play gives Dorman there first state championship in boys’ basketball with 55-53 win over Blythewood. The Bengals took the lead at 53-52 on a Keith Matthews layup with 1:14left in the game. Blythewood was led by Robert Braswell 12 points. Dorman took a 28-23 lead at the end of the first on a Tyson McClain three with less than :10 seconds left. Blythewood open the game with 8-4 lead and the Cavaliers went on a 14-7 run to close the first quarters. The second half was what time wanted the most. Dorman ended the second and third quarters with a five point. Blythewood ends the season at 22-6. Dorman ends the season at 23-5.
