Recruiting Report: Thunder Heyer (2017)
Thunder Heyer helped lead the Zimmerman Thunder to their first winning season since 2012 and remains one of the top unsigned point guards in Minnesota’s 2017 high school graduating class.
Heyer’s got several schools interested in him at this point and will likely be making a decision in the coming weeks.
“It’s going good,” Heyer said of the recruitment process. “It’s been mainly DIII at this point. Bethel and Hamline have been at a lot of games and talking to me mostly. Jamestown offered me a couple weeks ago.”
Heyer’s visited all three schools and said he wasn’t sure which way he’s leaning as all three schools have a lot to offer.
“I liked how Hamline and Bethel were close and I like the campus at Jamestown,” said Heyer. “They’ve got a sweet new facility that will be opening soon. Everybody had nice players that I enjoyed talking to. So I’ve had a good experience.”
Heyer could potentially join fellow in-state players like Heritage Christian’s Zach Johansen and Chanhassen’s Jonathan Mattern at Bethel, Maple Grove’s Max McNellis at Hamline or Becker’s Hunter McCalla, Grand Rapids’ Brock Schrom, Centennial’s Elliot Lyden and Red Wing’s Kipp Adams at Jamestown.
Heyer eclipsed 1,000 career points in his final year at Zimmerman and led the Thunder to the section semifinals where they lost to Rocori. A steady lead guard who can defend, create his own shot and control the game for his teammates, Heyer has a bright future for whichever college he chooses.
