Recruiting Report: Steele Senske (2018)
Park Christian junior wing Steele Senske grabbed our attention at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo last fall and he’s become a name that Minnesota will know soon.
Walking into the gym at Augustana last fall there was about a 6-foot-4 wing throwing down windmills and exploding to the rim for finishes. Who is that guy? That was the question and the answer was Steele.
Senske is setting records at Park Christian. Last year he broke the school scoring record for points in a game with 41 and he went over 1,000 point this season.
Park Christian improved by a couple games this winter while Steele went from scoring 18 a game as a sophomore to over 28 a game as a junior. His team went 12-14 before being knocked out of the playoffs.
“This season had a lot of great moments and a lot of bad moments for me,” Steele said. “We started the season on fire beating some top teams in our section. But in the middle of the season we struggled to find the energy and lost some games we shouldn’t have.
“The best moment this season was beating Lake Park-Audubon. Last year LPA went to state and was one of the top teams in the state this year. We beat them off of a last second three. Which was exciting.
“I had a lot of injuries this season involving a knee injury and an ankle sprain that left me on the bench and I missed four games. Then I ended up getting a concussion in our first playoff game against Hillcrest. But all in all our teams goal was to have a better record then last year and we did.”
Steele can explosively make plays around the rim but he has a nice scoring touch and solid handles as well. His game consistently grew with each performance.
“My game grew on and off the court,” Steele said. “I learned how to handle lots of pressure and double/triple teams on me. I learned how to lead my team to victory and how to handle a lost.
“I also learned how to encourage my teammates when I wasn’t playing do to injuries I had this season. But I still have lots to learn about the game of basketball.”
What’s next for Senske? Spring and summer basketball with the Minnesota Comets and more work in the gym to improve his game at Park Christian.
“I really need to hit the weights to bulk up if I want to play college ball which is one of my goals as a basketball player. I need to learn how to attack zones and were I should get my teammates the ball so they can score.
“I need to learn how to shed a man that is consistently in my face the whole game and find ways to score when we need a bucket. I need to learn how to come off a pick and roll and find the big man cutting to the rim.”
The talent is there for Steele to hoop in college and several schools are already calling.
“So far the colleges that are interested in me are Dakota State, Bemidji State, University of Mary, Northern State, and Valley City State University.”
