Recruiting Report: Sardarr Calhoun (2018)
Blue Ridge is coming off their second state title in three years, and Sardarr Calhoun was without a doubt key to his team’s success this season. The 6’5 wing really just got serious about basketball in eighth grade, and is still working hard to unlock his full potential.
“I’m a scoring guard who makes open shots,” Calhoun said about his playing style. “I love to defend.”
Calhoun is a versatile utility player who did a bit of everything for Head Coach Cade Lemcke and the Barons. Often times it was Calhoun who would match up against the opposing team’s top wing.
“I’m very vocal on defense,” said Calhoun, who takes pride in help defense as well as on-ball defense. “If my man’s getting beat I’ll slide over and grab my man after I help.”
Calhoun has received scholarship offers from La Salle, Hampton, and JMU. Virginia Tech, and Richmond are among the schools reportedly expressing interest.
“We condition every day at Blue Ridge,” explained Calhoun, who believes his stamina has seriously improved. “I play a lot more minutes, so that’s been way up.”
Calhoun is doing well in school, and knows how important academics are in the recruiting process. On the court, Calhoun says he needs to work on his off-hand.
“Sometimes I get allergic to it,” he joked.
What coaches who are recruiting Calhoun expect from him at the next level?
“I can bring a spark.”
