Recruiting Report: Ryan Larson (2018)
Cretin-Derham Hall point guard Ryan Larson knows a little something about March Madness. Last year as a sophomore he was the point guard on a state champion.
That was a year ago. Remember Larson with all the Braham seniors cutting down the Class AA title nets at the Target Center?
Larson has a new challenge this year. He’s the lead guard on the team with the state’s most talented juniors which is of course the Raiders of Cretin-Derham Hall.
“The season has had many ups and downs throughout the season but overall I think it was a good regular season,” Larson told Northstar Hoops.
“Personally it’s been a huge transition from AA to AAAA but I love the competition. My teammates and coaches have helped me greatly to become the player I am.
“Team wise I think we all wish we could have a few games back but we are confident with our abilities.”
CDH is 18-8 right now with Ryan scoring 13.7 points per game with 5.3 rebounds a night and 8.8 assists a game which is the highest total in state.
“I think the greatest change this year for my game is my leadership ability,” Ryan said.
“Being able to handle the pressure with the high expectations this team has is a great feeling. I am also seeing the court better, getting to the hoop, and my basketball IQ has went way up.”
The Raiders were given the four seed in Section 4AAAA and they will play North St. Paul tonight.
“I think without question our expectations are going to the state tournament and winning it,” Larson said.
“We’re playing very competitive and have an attitude that no one can stop us which I think is what is going to make us great and getting the outcome we all wanted.”
Larson is also a scholarship level point guard. At this point five schools are in contact the most.
“I talk to Nebraska-Omaha and Coach Bullock the most, usually on a daily basis,” Larson said. “Also I talk to university of South Dakota, Air Force, Furman, and Bemidji State University weekly,” Ryan said.
