Recruiting Report: Michael Coble (2018)
Six-foot-3 physical junior wing Michael Coble gave Byron High 15.5 points per game this winter. The Bears started slow but improved as the year went on.
Byron stared with four straight losses to open the year. They turned the year around winning 15 of their next 21 before falling to Austin in the playoffs.
“The season overall for us went good,” Coble explained. “With the competitive schedule we had we of course had our ups and down and it was full of winning streaks and losing streak.
“Our best moment as a team this year was probably our win in double OT against a tough Lourdes team.”
Being a AAA section team the Bears prepped by adding seven games against AAA teams outside of their league (plus a few within the league). Austin, Northfield, Waconia, Simley, and Waseca were on the schedule and many of them early in the year.
This battled tested junior year has Michael ready for the next step.
“This year I think I did a lot more in having an overall game and helping in a lot of different areas,” Coble said.
“Next year from an individual and team stand we will need to improve on the defensive end to compete in our strong conference and section. Individually continuing to help lead and challenge teammates.”
Coble is a physically agile player with skills and physical gifts that are tough to keep from the rim. Coble has the type of body control that can attack a rim and make difficult shots plus he’s physical enough that he can ignore contact.
With another strong AAU spring and summer Coble will likely have a chance to be seen, and play in front of several quality college programs. The potential is there.
“I’ve seen interest from Winona State, Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State, Northern State, and Illinois State,” Michael said.
