Recruiting Report: Kobe Hartman (2018)
A football and hoops standout, Ellender 6-foot-3 wing Kobe Hartman is unsure of which he’d like to pursue at the next level, but his recruitment is starting to heat up with each.
He currently holds no offers, but he’ll spend his summer playing both sports, and hopes that by summer’s end he’ll have an idea of which he’ll have the best opportunities with.
“I definitely want my recruitment to pick up this summer, so when the (basketball) coaches are around I’m going to step up my game and play as hard as I can play,” said Hartman, who laid out his hoops interest.
“Nicholls has talked to me for basketball, and my coach told me that Southern Miss has been asking about me.”
On the gridiron, Hartman stars as a wide-receiver and defensive back.
Some schools looking at him for football are Louisiana-Lafayette, Nicholls State and Southern, also several others.
“Right now I’m still undecided,” said Hartman. “I’m going to play both this summer, so I’m just going to see what the summer holds for me right now.”
On the hardwood, he’s a slasher, who excels at getting to the rim and being a playmaker for his team.
“My strengths are getting to the hole and driving to the basket, and making plays for my team. And rebounding is something I can do pretty well too,” said Hartman. “And then just being an all-around team player and doing whatever my teammates need me to do.”
He added: “Some things I need to work on are my dribbling and then my shooting, my shooting is OK, but it’s now quite where I want it to be yet.”
During his junior season with the Patriots, Hartman averaged 10.3 points per game helping to lead them to a Class 4A runner-up finish.
“We had a lot of ups and downs, but we pulled it all together after districts and we came together, moved through the playoffs, played it to the state title and just fell up short,” said Hartman.
He says this summer he’ll play with a carousel of teams; Louisiana Select Pelicans and Louisiana Lightning have been his squads so far.
“My goals are to work on my guard skills and just become a better overall player,” said Hartman.
