Recruiting Report: Gabe Brown (2018)
Already with eight Division I offers to his name, 6-foot-7 small forward Gabe Brown has established himself as of of the most sought-after prospects in Michigan’s 2018 class.
The Belleville junior has offers from Oakland, Detroit, DePaul, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Loyola-Marymount, Kent State, Southern Utah and Central Michigan.
Detroit was the first to offer last June, and then the floodgates opened. Central Michigan was the latest to offer last fall.
Brown — Michigan’s 9th-ranked 2018 — has taken unofficial visits to Detroit, Oakland and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
“I’d have to say Oakland is recruiting me the hardest,” said Brown. “And I just like the way their coach loves shooters and guys who like to get up and down the court — that’s what I like to do.”
Brown went into more detail about his style of play, and what he needs to improve before he’s ready for D1 hoops.
“I see myself as a shooter, a rebounder, and I can score really at will. My coaches ask me to get on the boards and run in transition, and get my teammates involved,” said Brown.
“My shot has been coming along, my jumper and my ball-handling, everything has been coming along. I really need to work on getting stronger.”
This sporing and summer will be telling as to whether Brown will play low to mid-major D1 ball, or high-major. He’s got some initial high-major interest from schools like Michigan, Michigan State, UNLV, Kentucky, Butler and Xavier.
After playing with Michigan Mustangs last season, Brown will spend his 17U offseason with The Family.
“My coach went over there (The Family) and brought some of our players. And my goal is to make it to Peach Jam and get some more offers,” said Brown.
“I’m just hoping to be one of the top scorers in the EYBL, and get some Big Ten offers and some other high-major offers.”
