Recruiting report: Francesco Badocchi (2017)
BONNER SPRINGS — On Thursday, Bishop Miege 6’7 2017 forward Francesco Badocchi was seemingly everywhere against an overwhelmed Bonner Springs squad, blocking shots, posting up and throwing down thunderous slam dunks.
Armed with a long, athletic frame, Badocchi has a quick burst off the floor, able to get up quickly, whether to block a shot or throw down a vicious slam. A native of Italy, he is not only a versatile defender able to hold his own in the paint or on the perimeter, but also shows a well-rounded offensive game European players have become known for, showcasing a smooth left-handed 3-point shot as well as the ability to dribble and pass.
When we first caught up with Badocchi before the season he was drawing interest from several schools, but held just one offer — from Emporia State.
He has seen his stock rise this season and has picked up offers from Division I programs Denver, East Tennessee State, Miami, UMKC and Western Illinois. Texas Tech is also in the mix and have come to several Bishop Miege games in recent weeks.
First however, Badocchi will look to lead Bishop Miege to a sub-state title on Saturday, and then on to state next week. Miege defeated Bonner Springs, 72-32, on Thursday, and will face Creighton recruit Mitchell Ballock and Eudora at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Bonner Springs.
