Recruiting Report: Art Palacios (2018)
Sunnyside’s 5-foot-9 point guard Art Palacios has always dreamed of playing basketball in college, and this offseason will be telling as to if that can become reality.
He’ll play with Washington Elite this spring for his 17U offseason, and is hoping for — at the very least — some more serious recruitment to come his way.
“One of the first colleges that has shown interest and would always invite me to camps is Eastern Washington. And Seattle University has watched some of my games. But I don’t have anything too serious yet,” said Palacios.
“I’m really trying to get an offer, but as long as I know I have some more serious interest by the end of the summer that would be my goal. I’m just trying to get as much interest as I can this summer, and go into my senior season knowing if I’ll play somewhere.”
Palacios added: “College basketball is something I’ve been wanting to do since I was little.”
A true point guard with an uncanny ability to set his teammates up for success, Palacios defined his style of play in his own words to PHWA.
“Personally, I think my strengths are being able to pass the ball really well, and seeing things before they happen,” he said. “I think I see things before anyone else sees them, and it helps to get my guys better looks.”
Sunnyside recently lost in the district semifinals, ending their 2016-17 season. Palacios says he averaged 16 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals per game, and he prided himself of being consistent.
“My role this year was the same as it’s always been; just to lead the team and get my guys open looks,” he said. “And doing the little things to help our team win.”
