Prospect Spotlight: Willie Herenton (2017)
Stevenson 2017 point guard Willie Herenton has been on a tear to close out his senior year. The uncommitted point guard uses his speed and athleticism to get to the rim. He attacks off the bounce in the half court, but is excellent using that speed in transition being slippery through traffic. Finishes well at the rim with good body control. Gets to the line and converts there. Quality defender that puts pressure on the opposing point guard. Struggles shooting it from three consistently. High end D3/NAIA prospect with the chance to slip into D2 consideration after a strong close to the season.
Herenton chatted with us about the year.
“I think this year I have played way better. I think my confidence is at an all-time high. I can create my shot and finish at any time of the game.”
Where has he made the biggest strides?
“I have improved being more assertive and being more of a leader. My role has been to lead the team and scoring. Also I think my defense has improved as well.”
Herenton played for the Mac Irvin Fire last spring in the Nike EYBL.
