PrepHoopsIllinois 1st Team All-State
PrepHoopsIllinois is unveiling our All-State Teams for the 2016-2017 season. These are based on play during the regular season. Here is PrepHoopsIllinois 1st Team All-State!
PG Mark Smith (Edwardsville)
Smith had a monster season! The Edwardsville point guard has great size for the position with strength and athleticism to match. He took his game up several notches as a senior. Going from low-major recruit at the end of July to high-major priority for many Midwest schools by the end of the high school season. His confidence has gone through the roof. Dominant attacking downhill with great body control and drawing contact. Plus passer that has improved range on shot to well beyond three.
PG Evan Gilyard (Simeon)
The UTEP commit has led the Wolverines all season long. Gilyard is a senior point guard that does whatever his team needs him to do that night to win. He is an outstanding leader for a team that is stacked with mostly with juniors. Gilyard uses his speed in transition and can win off the bounce to get to the rim. Solid passer with the ability to hit threes.
PG Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Dosunmu is the top ranked junior in the state of Illinois. He has played like it throughout the year. He opened by scoring 51 points in their opener and that has continued with several other big scoring outings throughout the season. Had several big performances in the early rounds at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament. Dosunmu can score at all three levels with slick handles and big time speed. He is a priority high-major recruit for a lot of programs.
SG Jordan Goodwin (Althoff)
Despite Goodwin only playing 2/3 of the season because of a shoulder injury he without a doubt deserves this honor! Before the injury Goodwin was posting just silly numbers every night in points, rebounds, and assists. He was right there for Mr. Basketball. He reaggervated a shoulder injury from AAU season against East St. Louis and despite coming back for a couple more weeks with more dominant play he was shut down. Physically the most imposing player in the state! Also since he has been out Althoff has fallen apart. Even more reason for the first team nod. Committed to SLU.
SF Javon Pickett (Belleville East)
Pickett is an ultra-smooth small forward that can score at all three levels. He has done just that this year. The Illini commit is one of the premier wing scorers in the state. He has put up monster 30+ and 40+ point games this year. The senior is one of the more underappreciated players as we feel he doesn’t get the national or even state wide recognition that he deserves.
