Player Of The Week: Chris English

This win was a long time coming for St. Paul Harding.
St. Paul Johnson has dominated the St. Paul City Conference for many years. Prior to February 21, it had a streak of 13 years without losing to Harding. But with the help of senior Chris English‘s 14-12 double-double, Harding broke the streak with a 49-45 win.
Those accomplishments gave English a spot in the Intensive Camps Player Of The Week voting, and over 9,000 votes won English the crown.
“(Beating Johnson) was a goal I had ever since I was a freshman,” English told NHR. “And losing to them for three years, and them saying they were the best team on the east side, it was a great feeling being a part of that team to end that losing streak.”
For a school that has not had much athletic success lately, this win brought back loads of school spirit.
“We had people chanting,” English said of the game. “We had the band out there supporting us. In a sense, it made our school spirit better. People were talking before and after the game… almost all of the east side of St. Paul was talking about it.”
As a senior, English is looking at life after high school. For him, it most likely includes junior college basketball.
“I’m looking at some community colleges out of state mostly,” he said. “Like Moraine Valley in Illinois.”
