PHD Playoff Central: Class B (March 10)
Five tickets have been punched to the Class B State Tournament and there are three more to go.
The Big Stage. Devils Lake High. With back to back games of St. John vs Harvey/Wells County followed by Four Winds/Minnewaukan vs New Rockford-Sheyenne this seems to be your best bet for the night when it comes to seeing top teams. St. John is unbeaten and Four Winds is the number one ranked team in the state and the Class B favorite to win the title.
The Big Stage Part 2. Minot State Dome. In one Region you have three teams that have been ranked in Bishop Ryan, Des Lacs-Burlington, and Our Redeemer plus Berthold. It’s a solid group of four starting in four hours with Bishop Ryan taking on Des Lacs-Burlington followed by Berthold and Our Redeemer.
The Big Game. Kenmare vs Parshall. Region 8 should be just as fun with these two teams and Stanley High as well. Kenmare and Parshall could be the best game to watch overall this evening in Class B. The Honkers won the first game by 20 points but this one should be closer.
Tickets Punched! Five teams are in the Class B State Tournament right now. Those teams are: Dickinson Trinity, Turtle Lake-Mercer/McClusky, Ellendale, Hillsboro/Central Valley, and Oak Grove.
Drew Pearson. Have you heard about what Drew did last night? I’m sure most of you have but let’s rehash: In only three quarters of play Drew was perfect from the arc for seven three-point makes and 15 of 18 shooting overall for his 39 points in the Des Lacs-Burlington win over Westhope-Newburg. Imagine if he would have been needed in quarter four (his team won by 32 points)?
Survived or Dominated. What teams survived to move on tonight and what teams crushed their opponents?
Survived: Stanley, HVC, TLMM, New Rockford-Sheyenne, Our Redeemer, Dickinson Trinity.
Dominated: St. John, Bishop Ryan, Des Lacs-Burlington, Powers Lake, Four Winds/Minnewaukan, Berthold, Parshall, Oak Grove, Kenmare.
Final Team Rankings. After the final week of the regular season we had a top ten of 1) Four Winds, 2) St. John, 3) Dickinson Trinity, 4) Linton/HMB, 5) Solen, 6) Bishop Ryan, 7) Beulah, 8), HCV, 9) Thompson, and 10) Shiloh. Half of those teams are out and there will be four of these teams at state at the most.
Tip of the Hat to the Career. Montel Carlow/Brayden Uses Arrow. The Solen pair was a treat to watch as they are explosive scorers. Not only were they fun to watch with Solen, but with ECI. To the pair we say good luck in the future as both are future college hoopers.
