NHR Playoff Central: March 8
NHR Playoff Central runs you through the results and the upcoming contests that highlight section play this evening.
The Big Stage Part 1. Hibbing has four games that started an hour ago with Bigfork/Deer River, N-K/Mt Iron-Buhl, Ely vs Chisholm, and NE Range vs North Woods. Hibbing is the place to be to see games all night.
The Big Stage Part 2. NSP vs CDH. There are many good AAAA games tonight but none have the talent and the records that this one does. Both teams are led by several quality juniors and have talent that people want to see like Goodnews Kpegeol, Ryan Larson, and Daniel Oturu. Polars/Raiders is definitely the game that will draw the most eyes. Oh but there are others too.
Owatonna vs Lakeville South is an excellent 4/5 game. The Huskies can challenge South, but what South team will show?…Tonka vs EP renews a rivalry for the third time this year…Edina vs Prior Lake is the sleeper game of the night…The neighborhood rivalry of Cooper vs Armstrong will be as heated as ever as they play for survival…
Section 6. The most ridiculous section in the state is 6AAA. Delano dropped to the four seed and has to deal with Waconia who is playing well and recently beat them. Henry worked their way to the three seed with that win over Delano so they get struggling BSM. Orono (vs Blake) and DeLaSalle (vs Mound-Westonka) earned the first round games that are a bit more tame.
Upset City! Last night was actually the furthest thing from Upset City. The only seeding upset was Sauk Rapids-Rice falling to Detroit Lakes and based on the way DL has been playing, and the way the Storm have been inconsistent despite talent, that’s not really an upset either.
Tuesday Night. Big win for Pine Island beating Lourdes. Pine Island is a dangerous team….Big night for Matt Todd moving Monticello out-dueling Willmar’s Noah Slagter…The game between St. Cloud Tech and Buffalo didn’t go five overtimes but it went one. Tech avoided the big upset 65-56….Minnesota-Scores has Mankato East beating Worthington and losing to Faribault last night. East actually moved on, and Mankato West lost to Faribault…
Tip of the Hat to the Career. Hunter McCalla. Hunter will continue his career at Valley City State next year at the college level. Hunter averaged 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists a game as one of the more versatile players in the St. Cloud Area.
