Legacy Charter vs Tennessee Prep
Prep Hoops is taking in the action at the USA National Prep Basketball Championships in North Myrtle Beach, SC this weekend. First round action started with a lot of excitement with Legacy Charter (Greenville, SC) vs Tennessee Prep (Memphis, TN).
Legacy Charter won this event last year behind Georgia signee Nicolas Claxton.
Chris Sodom 7’2 center quickly got into foul trouble for Tennessee Prep and went to the bench with 11:10 to play in the first half. The Diplomats led going in the halftime intermission with 22-17 lead over the Lions.
Point guard Alex Torres (2017) kept the Diplomats out front in this game with his scoring in the 2nd half. Dontrell Shuler and Nicolas Claxton kept the Lions in the game.
Tyrell Mendenhall
Tyrell Mendenhall was a good spark off the bench for the Lions with 4 points and took some charges. The Lions took the lead at 36-34 with 6:47 in the 2nd half on a Dontrell Shuler three point bucket.
Sodom returned to the game in the 2nd half and quicklt picked up his 4th foul and followed that up with a technical. Sodom played a total of 6 minutes before fouling out. Sodom has signed with the University of New Mexico for next season.
Point guard Rayshawn Neal drove the length of the floor for the Lions to tie the game up at 44-44 with 17.2 seconds left in the game. Alex Torres the leader of the Diplomats went to the foul line with 1.9 seconds left and made 1 of 2 shots to give them the lead at 45-44.
The Lions had one desperation shot with 1.6 seconds left but came up short today 45-44. Dontrell Shuler led the Lions in defeat with 14 points, Georgia bound Nicolas Claxton added 10 points and Rayshawn Neal added 8 points.
Alex Torres 5’10 led the Tennessee Prep Diplomats with 18 points. Both teams will play the next few days in North Myrtle Beach, SC before calling it a season.
