Lakewood Park Outruns Blackhawk Christian
Blackhawk Christian in a lot of ways was playing with house money. They were down three of their top players and were winning although they might not have been expected to. They cruised through the first two games but Lakewood Park is a really good team and just were too much for them. Lakewood had to battle without their top player on Tuesday night against Bethany Christian and almost got knocked off. However, they are now through to the next round and look like a legit candidate to make a run. They get to face Oregon-Davis next and that won’t be easy. With Lakewood’s duo of Keegan Fetters and Trevor Day, they could put up some points.
North Vermillion Breaks Through
One of the more surprising winners this week was North Vermillion. Heading into the week they only had 6 wins on the season but they upset Attica and Riverton Parke to win back-to-back Sectional Championships. Rockville got knocked off early and that made it a little bit easier but they still won the games they needed to. Now, they get a really tough matchup against Lafayette Central Catholic, a team that is playing as well as anyone in 1A this season.
Indianapolis Lutheran Surprises Morristown
Another big upset was Indianapolis Lutheran over Morristown. They 11-12 1A program also had to knock off Central Christian too. Morristown was the first team they faced this season and they got beat by 17 points. To flip that around by the end of the year is pretty solid. How far Lutheran can go will be interesting because they have a lot of losses but almost all to really solid teams. They are 9-4 against 1A teams this year. Next up, they get Hauser.
Hauser Surprises Oldenburg Academy
Heading into the postseason, Oldenburg Academy was 20-3 this year but they had a pair of odd losses to Triton Central and Jennings County. They were looked at as a potential deep run type of team but after cruising in their first two games, they ran up into Hauser who is also having a pretty good year. The first time these two teams met earlier in the season it had a suppressed point total and Oldenburg won. This time, Hauser was able to meet their scoring averages for the year and pushed it beyond Oldenburg’s comfort zone. Now, Hauser at 16-9, will get to face 11-12 Lutheran next Saturday.
