Triton Regional: The winner out of this one was Gary 21st Century. They lost their top guy from last season but seemingly had enough still in the tank to make another run. They knocked off a really good Tri-County team in the opening round and got an under-the-radar Oregon-Davis team in the Championship game. I wonder if Lakewood Park just ran out of steam. They had a couple pretty emotional games last week. However, Oregon-Davis has been good all year just hard to know how good they actually because of their schedule. Either way, 21st was able to advance in a really close finish. I think this could set them up for a chance at State, however, Central Catholic isn’t a slouch.
Frankfort Regional: Central Catholic kind of walked through this Regional. They dismantled North Vermillion as expected but beat Liberty Christian by 15 in the Championship game. They have had one of the toughest schedules all season and have played teams like LC that like to get up and go. Looking forward, Central Catholic won’t be overwhelmed by the style in which 21st will play and I think that might surprise some if they aren’t aware.
Martinsville Regional: I was impressed early on by how Shakamak was able to keep up with Tindley. They have none of my favorite players no one knows about in Tanner Yeryar and he seemed to keep them in the game but like expected, Tindley was able to win it pulling away in the fourth quarter. They also easily beat Lutheran who has come out of no where to make it all the way to the Regional Championship. They were one of a few teams that surprised with how far they were able to make it this year. Tindley got tripped up by Bloomfield last year but they haven’t faced a team like them yet. Next weekend, they will get a slightly smaller version in New Washington but Tindley is rolling right now.
Loogootee Regional: New Washington came away victorious after wins over West Washington and Wood Memorial. This turned out to be a great Regional but New Washington might have been the last team I picked to win it. Knocking off Wood Memorial in the Championship game might have been the most impressive win in 1A yesterday. Wood Memorial was loaded and they came up short. Now, New Washington will try and do what Bloomfield did last year and knock off Tindley. It won’t be easy but size has tripped them up before and it will be something to watch.
