Jose Grubbs to UMSL
Joliet Central 2017 wing Jose Grubbs is one of the toughest kids in the senior class across the state of Illinois. He has made his college choice of where he will be spending the next four years. That will be at University of Missouri St. Louis. Grubbs explained to us why he chose the D2 program.
“I feel like the coaching staff has my best interest at hand. I feel like I’d be surrounded by a supportive community athletically as well as academically. UMSL allows me to still be close to home and I believe I can continue growing as a basketball player.”
Grubbs was a huge part of one of the best seasons in Joliet Central history. How does he see his game fitting in at UMSL?
“I’m really versatile so I can do a little of everything. Rebounding, defensive pressure on the guards, and getting to the rim as well as knocking down open shots. They play a patient style of offense, but also like to run in transition which is also another reason I like their style of play. So it will take some adjusting to the speed of the game, but I do see myself affecting all parts of the game beginning on defense.”
At 6’3” Grubbs has a lot of intangibles that you love in a player. Physically he has great length and good muscle tone. Grubbs was a tremendous glue guy for the Illinois Stars 17U last summer on the circuit. He does the little things. Dives after loose balls, gets offensive rebounds, and plays tough defense. High activity level with a never ending motor. As a scorer is best in the transition game and getting buckets off put backs.
