Five steals from Oklahoma
Oklahoma is known for having players each year around this time that end up being steals at the next level. Colleges are always searching this time of year for one or two players that could change the outcome of their upcoming season. Prep Hoops Oklahoma breaks down five names to know at all levels below.
Caleb Nero 2017 Tulsa Memorial Combo Guard
Nero is the hottest name to know on the Oklahoma market for Division I programs looking at combo guards. For what ever reason Nero has been overlooked thought his career, but simply continues to produce. I compare Nero to Marcus Dickinson from a year ago. Dickinson was a late find for Boise State and was a steal. The ability for Nero to create and score at a high level makes him a guard colleges will look at.
Burke Putnam 2017 Tulsa Central Point Guard
Putnam excelled his senior year at Tulsa Central, but a injury during the late part of the season hurt the looks he was receiving from Division I schools. Putnam is a dynamic guard who creates off the dribble. He is excellent at knowing when to pass and when to shoot. Putnam is a good all-around Point Guard. Another area of his game that makes him a player to know is his defensive and rebounding presence.
Marvin Johnson 2017 Edmond North Wing
Johnson dominated this season on the Wing for Edmond North. He was a key part in Edmond North winning it all. When Johnson had his mind made up to drive to the basket there was not a player in Oklahoma that could stop him. At 6’5 Johnson projects now to the Mid Major Division I level. Due to Academics he will take the JUCO route before he gets to the Division I level. Johnson needs to improve his shooting over the two years of JUCO. If Johnson can improve his shot and work hard in the classroom he could end up a High Major recruit after two years of JUCO.
Callen Haydon 2017 El Reno Point Guard
Haydon had a fantastic senior campaign at El Reno leading the Indians to a deep run in the Class 5A state tournament. Any doubters of Haydon were silenced by his play on the court and his composure. He turned into a leader on the floor and gave all that he had for his team. Haydon will be a great find for a college. He projects to the Division II level.
Tony Hall 2017 Broken Arrow Wing
Hall somehow has managed to go unnoticed by most schools in the region. The 6’5 Wing had a great year at Broken Arrow leading the way for the Tigers to make the Class 6A state tournament. Hall rebounds the ball extremely well on the Wing. Offensively, Hall provides a scoring punch from all three phases. He projects to the Division II level and is a player who could make an instant impact.
