DWU/Culver’s Classic at The Corn Palace. The annual event is this weekend with eight games being played starting at 10am. The event will include some of the best Class A and Class B teams in the state.
10am: DeSmet vs. Irene-Wakonda
11:30am: Mount Vernon/Plankinton vs. Pine Ridge
1pm: Aberdeen Roncalli vs. Sioux Falls Christian
2:30pm: St. Thomas More vs. Dell Rapids
4pm: Langford Area vs. Chamberlain
5:30pm: Sully Buttes vs. White River
7pm: Sanborn Central/Woonsocket vs. Chester Area
8:30pm: Bridgewater-Emery vs. Corsica-Stickney
Also Saturday. The Corn Palace is your best option for high schools hoops Saturday but not your only option. Langford Area at Chamberlain sticks out as a big game as does Clark/Willow Lake at Flandreau. Tri-Valley takes on Sisseton and Wolsey-Wessington welcomes Aberdeen Christian.
Tuesday’s Best. Here are tonight’s biggest match-ups. Brandon Valley at Yankton. Yankton, winners of three of their last four, welcome 12-3 Brandon Valley (Yankton also has Brookings on Thursday). This was a two point game when they played five weeks ago so in the Bucks home game this could be an excellent contest. Yankton seems to improve with every game. Canistota at Chester Area. Another tough game for Chester Area but this one they get at home.
Crow Creek at Chamberlain. Region 6 is on the line tonight when 11-3 Chamberlain welcomes 10-4 Crow Creek. The Cubs have lost two of three but have a won game and .14th points edge on tonight’s opponent. Bottom line, this is a huge game. MVP at Dell Rapids. When it comes to quality of teams it’s tough to beat this game. The Quarriers were cooled off by Tri-Valley and Madison but their difficult schedule continues with MVP, Dakota Valley, and St. Thomas More this week. MVP is the best of Region 5 right now after winning their last two.
Pierre at Aberdeen Central. The winner gets to .500, the loser is two games under. Ouch. Close to a must win for momentum sake. St. Thomas More at Red Cloud. If the Cavs are to get back to the state final this is the type of difficult game they need to win. Red Cloud feels like they are top ten worthy so if that is the case they should take care of business at home.
Last Night. Every game is important. The team that stood forward and made the state take notice was Douglas beating Sturgis Brown by a single point in a key home win….Madison grabbed another name win by beating Chamberlain 62-56….Wall’s win over Philip keeps them playing well down the stretch…JVC over Highmore-Harrold and Bridgewater-Emery taking out Canton 76-54 were other notable Class B games…Great Plains Lutheran going into Elkton-Lake Benton and winning by three also falls in the upset category…
