Class A Upper State
Lewisville 71 Calhoun Falls Charter 48
Mike Hill scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Lions to the state championship game vs. Hemingway at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Columbia. The Lions outscored Calhoun Falls Charter 35-16 in the second half after leading 36-32 at the half.
The Blue Flashes took two hits late in the third quarter when Javariza Belton fouled out with 1 minute left after scoring seven points. Then, Armani Cade foul out 30 second later after scoring six points. Lewis Turman scored a team-high 13 points in the loss.
Calhoun Falls Charter ends the season at 19-4. Lewisville head Michael McCray will face a familiar foe on Friday in Hemingway as he played for the Tigers in the late 90s. McCray was part of a state championship team at Hemingway as a player.
Lewisville improves to 19-6 on the season.
Class 3A Upper State
Southside (Greenville) 71 Clinton 43
Jalen McKelvey (2017) scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to lead the Tigers to the state championship game vs. Dillon at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Columbia. McKelvey himself scored the same numbers as Clinton in the first half at 20.
RJ Campbell (2019) added 16 points for the Southside. The Tigers move to (26-1) on the season and a trip to the State Championship game in Columbia this week.
Clinton only lead was at 5-4 early in the first quarter. Tymori Tribble (2017) scored a team-high 12 points and Jalen Carter (2017) had 5 points in the loss.Clinton finished the season at 21-4.
Class 5A Upper State
Dorman 61 Gaffney 47
Tyson McClain (2017) scored a game-high 14 points to advance the Cavaliers to the state championship game vs. Blythewood on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Columbia. Dorman and Gaffney spilt the regular-season matchup this year as both teams won on their home floor.
Dorman won the game that meant the most the right to play in the first ever Class 5A championship game in basketball in South Carolina. Dorman outscored Gaffney 13-2 in the second quarter after trailing 15-9 after the first. Ohio University signee Zach Butler added 11 points and Tae Cannon had 10 for the Cavaliers. Cannon has signed with Catawba University (NC) NCAA D2. Dorman moves to (22-5) on the year.
Mystical Tate led Gaffney with 12 points and Tay Kershaw (2017) added 12 points in his final game as a Gaffney Indians. The Indians finished the season at 21-6.
