We’re talking about the floor general, the leader, the coach on the floor who doesn’t care about being the superstar as much as he cares about winning games and championships. Here’s six of the most overlooked floor generals in the Greater Richmond area.
Nathaniel Hutton | Manchester
Hutton has been a integral part of turning around a Manchester program that had less than 10 wins in the past two seasons. A tough nosed competitor, Hutton is terrific at controlling the tempo, getting in the paint and making plays for others. He has the intangibles and competitive drive of a winner, and he’ll push everyone on the team to be better.
Brian Harris | Armstrong
He isn’t the tallest guy at 5’8”, but he can absolutely play with the best of them. He’s crafty, plays with pace, makes good decisions and can shoot the lights out off the bounce. He’s a tough kid and a leader, one that makes plays for others and can make shots when needed.
Dajuan Edwards | Amelia Academy
Need a shooter? Edwards is one of the most underrated in the Richmond area. He can let it fly from 25 feet with ease, and once he gets it going he can ring off three or four in the next few possessions. He can play on or off the ball and he’s instant offense in a sixth man role as well.
Chuck Hill | Highland Springs
Hill is the perfect backup point guard for a young Highland Springs team, because he brings savvy and leadership off the bench. The 5’9” guard understands where to get points, can shoot it from deep and simply seems to be in the right place at the right time. He may be small but he plays with a lot of heart.
Eric Thompson | St. Chris
At 5’5” he’s almost always the smallest player on the floor, but Thompson knows his role and always finds a way to make an impact. A pesky defender, he’s able to negate his size by getting under bigger guards and making them uncomfortable. Offensively, he’s a pass first guy with good vision and IQ, and he has a great middle game as well.
Chris Morris | Henrico
Morris has been an underrated part of Henrico’s success the last couple of seasons. Last year, he was the steady guard off the bench that defended and didn’t make mistakes. This season, Morris is the steady hand that gets them into sets, controls the tempo and gets his young guards looks. He’s a steady defender in their press as well.
