Liberty got a game high 36 points from 5’10 2018 guard Jalen Lewis, while 6’5 2017 forward Clayton Adams added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Jays. Lawrence got 20 points from 6’1 2019 guard Clarence King and 11 points and three boards from 6’2 2017 guard Jackson Mallory in the loss.
MVP: Jalen Lewis (Liberty). A 5’10 2018 point guard, Lewis impresses with his quickness, foot speed and ability to put the ball in the basket from long range. He has a super-quick release from long distance. He scored 36 in this one, knocking down seven 3s.
Offensive Player of the Game: Jalen Lewis (Liberty). See above.
Defensive Player of the Game: Clarence King (Lawrence). He had several steal and run outs for easy buckets and also had a key block late in the game.
Best shooter: Austin Miller (Lawrence). The obvious answer here is Lewis, who knocked down seven 3-pointers, but Miller had a stretch in the second quarter where he matched Lewis 3 for 3 coming off the Lawrence bench. Miller is a 5’7 2017 guard.
Best rebounder: Alex Tison (Liberty). Had five rebounds in the first half and finished with eight. Battled inside against a bigger Lawrence team throughout the game and held his own and had several big plays inside down the stretch. A 6’6 2017 forward, Tison is a long post player that is active inside.
Best intangibles: Brett Chapple (Lawrence). A 6’5 2019 wing player, Chapple is the glue that makes Lawrence stick. He is a well-rounded and skilled player, but is content doing the little things to help his team win. He rebounds, finished Saturday’s game with seven, scores here and there and is all over the place at the defensive end of the court. Is a well-rounded and versatile defender.
Best player off the bench: Noah Butler (Lawrence). He’s a physical specimen, a strong, athletic 6’5 2019 forward that can handle the ball, shoot from the outside and play high above the rim. He showed off a diverse skill set early on in this one, knocking down a 3 and scoring six points early in the game. He has a lot of upside and is currently ranked highly among our class of 2019.
Young players to Watch: Clarence King (Lawrence). King is a smooth 6’1 shooting guard that can handle the ball, get to the basket and create for himself and others. He has a big frame and plays bigger than his listed height. One of several talented 2019 players on Lawrence.
Under the Radar Player: Trey Quartlebaum (Lawrence). He’s another 2019 Lawrence player that doesn’t get a tremendous amount of PT right now, but comes off the bench and provides an offensive spark. He’s a 6’1 guard that has a smooth game and a really nice mid-range game.
