South Dakota Playoff Central: Feb 28
Tonight is a FULL night of basketball in South Dakota with a massive amount of playoff games being played at all three levels across the state. PHD gets you ready with our Playoff Central Preview.
South Dakota Playoff Central.
Class AA. All four regional semi-finals will be played tonight with the top games of interest being Brookings vs Watertown, Brandon Valley vs Harrisburg, Washington vs Lincoln, Pierre vs Aberdeen Central, and Sturgis Brown vs Douglas.
Class A. It’s first round play for Regions 1-6 with teams getting byes relaxing until later in the week. Dakota Valley vs Lennox, Stanley County vs Mobridge-Pollock, and Webster vs Milbank look to be the most interesting games of the night. It’s One and Done so everything is on the line.
Class B. District play is going on across the state. What are some of the top match-ups? Most are 2/3 games including Warner vs Aberdeen Christian, Lower Brule vs Highmore-Harrold, Colman Egan vs O-RR, Faith vs Bison, and especially Sanborn Central/Woodsocket vs James Valley Christian.
Walking Proud in the Halls Today. Winner beat Red Cloud 52-48 and our guy to watch from yesterday Drew DeMers hit key foul shots late. Add in the 16 from Issac Naassz and it was a big day for Winner. Now they have Little Wound on Thursday.
The Big Stage. Tonight that will be the Webster Armory where all the Region 1A games will be. The first game starts in 30 minutes between Roncalli and Tiospa Zina followed by Groton and Birtton-Hecla then Webster vs Milbank Area.
Game of the Night. First thought was the Lincoln vs Washington rivalry game but that’s not a one and done scenario. The loser still has a chance. The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket vs JVC game is where all the attention should be tonight.
SCW is 14-6 on the year while JVC is 15-5. They played once in mid-January with the Blackhawks winning 64-56. Wyatt Feistber led the Blackhawks in the last contest with 23 points as JVC could do nothing with him. That said, JVC got a double-double of 19 and 15 from Eric Hasart the first time around.
Upset City. Winner was the only higher seed to win a game last night beating Red Cloud 52-48 but the upset quality of it was minimal as they were similar teams.
