Continue ReadingColumbus Northland has surprised many. The Vikings have posted a 16-2 record in the highly competitive Columbus City League; a conference they will have a chance to win on February 18 against Columbus South. Many players have increased their role with the graduation of Seth Towns, one of which is 6’8” power forward Quentin Jones (2017).
“For us being a new team, seeing to how we lost a star player last year, we’ve developed really good. We’re only going up from here,” Jones said. He continued, “Last year I was more of role player, do what you got to do for the win. But now, I’ve stepped into more of a leadership role. Making sure everyone on the team is doing what they’re supposed to.”
Jones has appeared ready for such a task. Given how large of an individual he is, Jones’ athleticism makes him a promising prospect. He runs the floor, has swift post moves, can face-up from mid-range, and even plays above the rim.

Two weeks back, Lourdes University was the first team to completely buy-in and offer a scholarship to Jones.
“I took a visit down there a few weeks ago. I like the campus. It’s cool,” Jones said, when asked if he’s interested in Lourdes.
He also has received interest from Wheeling Jesuit (WV), Ohio Northern, Kent State, and Vincennes (IN).
There’s a few attributes in a college Jones identifies as important.
“First of all, if they have the major that I want. Location. Is the campus nice. And what would my role would be on the team when I first come there,” Jones said.
Jones, a 2.7 GPA student, is hoping to major in Business Finance.
It’s mildly surprising that Jones hasn’t shown enough to warrant a few more offers. He has the size and athleticism to be an effective player at the D-II, D-III, JUCO, and NAIA level. Furthermore, his production in a tough high school conference is impressive. Potentially it’s just a matter of time for a few more options to open up for Jones, who will play at Mifflin High School on Friday.
