Sumpter is one of the best scorers in Harford County with a 23 point per game average. He also chips in with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals per contest. His two 30-point performances came against Patterson Mill when Sumpter finished with 36 in the win and 33 in a win against Rising Sun.
The 6’3″ wing tells PrepHoops he has had contact with West Virginia Wesleyan, Frostburg State University, Lycoming College, Welsey College, Albright College, University of Scranton, and Penn State Lehigh Valley. Sumpter knows what he wants when it comes to his college decision. His 3.5 GPA attests for his ability to put in the work both on and off the court.

“I look for a very competitive program who has a balance of an uptempo style of play but can also run their half court offense when necessary,” Sumpter told PrepHoops. “As far as academics they have my intended major which is mathematics/engineering.”
In terms of translating his game to the next level, Sumpter has a 6’6″ wingspan that will be crucial when matched up against bigger players at the next level. His approach this season has been to focus on his weaknesses while continuing to polish his strengths of scoring the ball. Sumpter knows what awaits from him at the college level and knows there is still work to be done before he evolves into the type of productive college player he intends on being.
“The most improved part of my game has been creating shots for either my teammates or myself,” Sumpter said. “I plan on improving more on just my overall strength because I know at the next level there are going to be even more bigger guys in the paint waiting for me so I just need to improve on my strength to deal with the physical contact in a college game.”
Sumpter’s assistant coach, Da’Saun Jones, recently finished he collegiate career at Goldey-Beacom College and had this to say about Sumpter’s ability to play at the next level:
I think he’ll be a great addition to any program on the floor because of his natural shooting and scoring ability,” Jones told PrepHoops. “He can knock down open shots as well as contested shots and he can get to the rim and finish through contact. He’s a great teammate and very coachable. Off the floor, he’s a model student athlete. He is serious about his academics. He represents his school and community as well as any student I’ve seen. Very respectful, eager to learn, and a commitment to making himself great.”
Sumpter will look to lead his team into the UCBAC championship as the end of the regular season comes to an end within the next week.
