The 6-foot-3 shooting guard says ideally D2 would be where he’d play next season, but if that doesn’t happen for him, he’ll be fine playing one of the other two levels of hoops.
“I just want to improve so I can play at that next level. And I’m hoping to get some offers from maybe some more junior colleges, or offers from a D1 or D2 school is my goal,” said Sipe.
“Some junior colleges that have offered me are South Puget Sound, Pierce, Centralia, and others interested are Tacoma and Wenatchee Valley.”
It could be a matter of time before a D2 scholarship comes his way.
“Some D2s I’m interested in are Western Oregon, Western Washington, those types of schools. Saint Martin’s, Simon Fraser, Seattle Pacific have been showing me some interest.”
But NAIA’s have been coming after Sipe — Washington’s 55th-ranked 2018 — too.
“A lot of the NAIA schools are showing a lot of interest, and I’ve taken visits to those schools, and they’re starting to talk money with me now; like Northwest University in Kirkland, Northwest Christian in Eugene are going to have me back to talk money, said Sipe. ”
“If I don’t get any offers from D2s or NAIAs, I’ll probably go the JuCo route. But if a D2 does want to offer me and have me in their program, then I’ll probably go the D2 route.”
With some decent size and an ability to score the ball, Sipe adds defensive tenacity and a willingness to rebound.
“I’m a pretty good deep shooter, and my pull-up game is pretty good. I do a lot of stuff off the ball, like rebounding, so I’m an energy guy. And I like to get to the rim and score that way too,” he said.
“I’m really working on my ball-handling skills, so I can bring the ball up the floor more, and then I’m working on becoming quicker overall.”
He’s been doing it on both ends of the floor for the Bears this season.
“I’ve really increased my rebounding, we lost a bunch of bigs last year,” said Sipe. “And my role the past two years has been to score the ball, and that’s what I’ve really tried to do this season.
