His secret: effort.
“I’m someone that goes all out for their team, I’m obviously not the biggest guy, but I’ll always go 100 percent and always sacrifice myself for the betterment of the team,” said Trautmann, who went on to define his strengths as a player.
“Skill-set wise, I’d say I’m a good 3-point shooter; if I get the ball I’m ready to fire it at all times. And also trying to get my teammates involved, and get them the ball is something I try to do.”
As the regular season with the Rebels comes to a close, Trautmann reflected on what his role has been during his sophomore season.
“My role on our team probably has been to just shoot the ball when I get a look, and just go 100 percent all the time,” he said.
“I just like to have the mentality that I’m underrated, and just prove them wrong each night out.”
Also a baseball standout, Trautmann says his summer will be jam-packed between his time of the diamond and the hardwood.
Rather than taking a more traditional approach to his hoops advancement and playing grassroots ball on the 16U circuit, he’s electing to work on his game privately, with a trainer.
“What I plan on doing this spring and summer is working out on my own with a trainer, it’s a busy time for me with baseball, but I’ll definitely be in the gym working out and lifting and getting ready for next season,” said Trautmann.
So which sport is his favorite? Neither, right now.
“I get asked that a lot, and I honestly don’t know — it’s pretty equal between both of them,” said Trautmann. “I’m just going to see where one or the other takes me, and it’s always been a dream of mine to play both in college.
