player, Wichita Southeast guard Johnny Murdock is making his own mark
as a standout long-range shooter.
A 5’10 2019 guard, Murdock has helped Wichita Southeast open the
season 9-6. He is a strong defender and plays with a big motor at both
ends of the floor. He is averaging nearly 10 points per game and has
helped Southeast open the season 9-6. He has had some big performances
this season, knocking down seven straight 3s and scoring 23 in the
first half of one game.
“Our season is going well, we should have won some close ones and as
an individual, I think I could do more on the offensive end but it’s
starting to come along,” Murdock said.
He spent the past summer I was really working on his ballhandling and
shooting while playing with Oz Elite.
Murdock says his dad, by the same name, has been the biggest influence
on his basketball career. The elder Johnny Murdock was inducted into
the Missouri State Hall of Fame in 1999 and finished his career third
on the schools career scoring list.
“My dad always took me to the gym with him ever since I was little,”
Murdock said. “I always say him working hard and that made me wanna
work hard for my dream and for his dream he never got.”
Murdock says he enjoys watching the Portland Trailblazers’ Damian Lillard.
“I look at his hesitation moves and I try to do those because they
create so much space,” he said. “Plus he is always working hard on
both ends of the floor.”
Murdock says he hasn’t heard from any college programs just yet, but
hopes that changes in the future.
