Of the team’s sixteen varsity spots only two are filled by seniors. The rest of the team is composed of eight juniors and six sophomores.
One of these juniors is Dominic Mooney Jr.
Dominic is a 6-foot-tall point guard and shooting guard that primarily plays at the point guard position. He is currently the number 38 player on Prep Hoops 2018 rankings for the state of Arizona, but is playing like he belongs in the top 10.
Dominic had said that he expects his team to do well as they will be entering the 5A tournament soon, and he even thinks they have a good chance at taking it all. For this Buena team to fulfill such dreams they are going to need Dominic, as well as the rest of the team, to continue playing at the level that they are capable of.
“Russell Westbrook.” Was Dominic’s answer when asked who he thought his game resembled most, and it’s kind of hard to deny it. He is second on his team in points and rebounds with an average of 12.8 points and 5.5 rebounds a game, as well as leading the team with 5.5 assists and nearly two steals a game. His spread-out numbers across the stat line, along with his defensive play, is what I would imagine the Russell Westbrook high school comparison would be.
After the high school season is over he will play AAU ball for Power House. When it comes to the AAU season, Dominic said that he enjoys the team mates that are on his team and believes that it will be a good year for the Power House squad.
Dominic has yet to receive offers to any schools up to this point, but with one more year left of high school ball for him to play I do not doubt that he will be receiving offers soon.
