The Favorite
Salina-Central Mustangs (18-2): Team enters play as the No. 5 ranked team in the latest 5A poll. Have won seven straight and its only losses this season have come to Newton by five and Andover by seven. Brayden Neuschafer is averaging 18 points per game to lead the Mustangs this season.
The Challenger
Wichita Heights Falcons (15-5): Team is currently ranked No. 9 in the latest 5A poll. Team is led by Devin Davis, a 6’1 junior, who is averaging 15.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Tyrell Andrews has been a stat sheet stuffer, averaging 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game and has made 59 3-pointers while shooting 40 percent from long distance. The Falcons lost its last contest to Wichita East, but have otherwise won six straight leading up to that contest.
The Darkhorse
Newton Railroaders (8-12): They are 5-2 over their past seven games and have played several good opponents tough this season, including favorite Salina Central who the Railroaders lost to in the regular season finale, 51-47 on Feb. 24. Ty Berry is among the state’s top freshmen, averaging 21.5 points per game this season.
Topeka West Chargers (6-14): These guys have played a tough schedule and have taken their lumps and are losers of three straight games. On the other hand, they have some talented individual players who can carry a program for long stretches.Koriyon Carr, a 5’10 2018 guard, is averaging 20 points per game and has knocked down 49 3-pointers while shooting 38 percent from deep
