Pleasant Grove- Keanu Akina was a fairly unknown prospect until the season. He is a transfer player from Kahuku High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has become one of the top 3 point specialist in the state of Utah.
The 6’ guard for the Vikings has been a huge difference maker this year for PG who is currently the #2 ranked team in Utah. Keanu can get extremely hot, as evidence with his 8 3’s and 34 points against the #1 team in the country, powerhouse Chino Hills.
Keanu can score in a variety of ways, but his lightning quick release and deep 3 point range are his most valuable assets. Keanu is averaging 13 PPG and already has 63 3’s made on the season in just 19 games. Not the strongest player on the floor, but makes up for strength with elite range on his jumper and a very high basketball IQ. He is excellent at coming off screens with the intent to score and make plays for his teammates.
Keanu can play either guard, but will be most valuable as a point guard at the next level. He has talked to multiple D2’s, but with a deep run at this years state tournament, Akina could wind up a mid-major D1 prospect. Keanu will serve a 2 year Mormon mission and be eligible for the 2019-2020 season in college.
