It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part two of our 2017 scouting report!
SF Nana Akenten (Bolingbrook – 2017 – Nebraska)
Akenten answered everything that Pickett had for him. He has outstanding size on the wing with a combination of strength and athleticism that make him a special player. The Nebraska commit was on fire from deep. Akenten uses his size and elevation off the floor to get his shot off with ease. Loves to pull up from deep. Also had a couple great step back threes where he created significant space. He is an elite pull up jump shooter especially from mid-range. Very balanced and little movement. Got on the glass throughout the game including several put backs. The Nebraska commit and top 10 senior had 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 steals.
PF Malik Binns (Bolingbrook – 2017)
Binns is a grown man on the interior! He stands at 6’5” with great strength and big time athleticism. The thing I love most about Binns game is he doesn’t try to be someone that he isn’t. He plays inside and uses his toughness to get things done! Binns finished around the hoop well on dump off passes, sealing in the high/low, and getting on the offensive glass. He had 16 points (7-9 FG) and 7 rebounds. High D2 prospect that is also considering playing baseball.
PG Cam Irvin (Morgan Park – 2017)
Irvin is a small point guard that has had a quality season for the Mustangs. He excels at shooting it from three. Irvin has hit some big shots and had some runs that have helped the Mustangs get back into games. He tried to do that in this one as well. Only shot 4-12 from the land of three. Quick release for the volume shooter. He had 16 points. Small college prospect.
PF Melo Burrell (Morgan Park – 2017)
Melo Burrell stands at 6’7” with great athleticism. He rebounded very well in this contest on both ends. Only took four shots and scored 8 points along with grabbing 9 boards. D2/JUCO prospect.
PG Nojel Eastern (Evanston – 2017 – Purdue)
Eastern closed out the night leading his team to a blowout win over Belleville Althoff. He displayed his versatility. Eastern hasn’t put up monster scoring numbers this year, but the 6’6” point guard who is the top senior in the state at his position beats a team by contributing across the board. He did just that on Saturday. The future Boilermaker was outstanding passing the rock! Eastern made crisp dishes and showed his flare for the game with some dimes through multiple defenders. Hit the glass well getting on the boards for second chance opportunities. As a scorer he got in the lane and to the rim. Showed some explosion on a two footed monster dunk. Eastern had 10 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds.
PF Elyjah Williams (Evanston – 2017)
Williams is a wide body at 6’6” 230 pounds. Broad shouldered with a strong frame, but moves well for his size. Space eater on the interior that knows how to create space to maneuver. He finishes well inside using the glass to bank shots in. Had several tip ins. Solid area rebounder. He had 13 points. High end D3/NAIA prospect.
SF Christian Hamil (Evanston – 2017)
Hamil is a 6’4” strongly built wing. The senior shot the ball extremely well from the perimeter especially in the first half. He was lights out off the catch drilling three in a row. Also has some versatility and toughness to his game. Solid defender. Finished with 13 points. Would be an excellent D3/NAIA prospect.
SG Malcolm Townsel (Evanston – 2017)
Townsel transferred in from Whitney Young for his senior season. He has fit in very well. The senior wing hit a pair of threes off the catch. Looked like a slight hitch at the top of the release, but they went in. Also showed some acrobatics at the rim with a couple of scores. He had 9 points. Small college prospect that brings some upside.
SF Marvin Bateman (Belleville Althoff – 2017)
Bateman now has to be the man with Goodwin gone. He hit a pair of threes off the catch which is what his strength is by far. Also mixed in a runner as well as an and-1 in the lane. Bateman had 10 points. D2 shooter at 6’4” with good length. Will be a specialist at the college level.
