Class A
Hemingway 83 Bethune-Bowman 55
Solomon Skinner
The Hemingway Tigers were led by the duo of Solomon Skinner (2017) and Darius Taylor (2019) both with 20 points a piece. The Tigers will return to Columbia next Friday for the State Championship. The Tigers lost to Calhoun County last season 65-55 .
Desmond Pressley
Desmond Pressley (2017) added 15 points in the lopsided win over the Mohawks yesterday afternoon at the Florence Civic Center.
Braxton Wedgeworth took high high honors in the loss for the Mohawks with 15 points. Ikaun Smith added 12 poins in the defeat. The Mohawks finish the season at (18-7).
The Tigers will now play Lewisville on Friday at 5:30 P.M. at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia,
3A – Lower State Championship
Dillon 54 Brookland-Cayce 41
The Wildcats are headed to Columbia to play in the Class 3A State Championship game next week vs Greenville Southside. The Wildcats haven’t won a state basketball chmapionship since 1969. The last trip to Columbia was back in 2000 then coached by Harold Wilson.
Ty’quan Porter
The Wildcats were led in scoring by Javier Brookins (2017) with 14 points and Ty’quan Porter (2018) chipped in 12 points. Keenan Norman (2017) and Darius Boatwright both added 9 points in the win.
Wildcats Head Coach Lee Page is in his first year running the program.
Class 3A State Player of the Year Lloyd Hemming finished his career with 14 points for the Bearcats.
5A -Lower State Championship
Blythewood 60 Irmo 51
Keith Matthews
Keith Matthews a Stetson signee led the Bengals with 17 points to advance to the 5A- State Championship this coming week vs Dorman.
Robert Braswell added 12 points while Charles “Trey” Jackson added 9 points for the Bengals.
Winston Hill led Irmo (22-6) in the loss with 20 points. Noah Jenkins added 15 points and Rodney “R.J.” Gunn added 9 points.
The Bengals improve to (22-5) on the season.
