Arlington Awes WESCO
One of my predictions that was way off was Arlington finishing ninth in WESCO, when they ended up finishing fifth. Arlington surprised many and finished 10-9 overall with a conference record of 7-4. They will be a tough out for teams come regional playoffs as they score 66 points a game, which is third in the conference.
A key cog to the Eagles success has been senior point guard Drew Bryson, who has had a magnificent season. He is currently averaging 23 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals per game this season.
Don’t Doubt Edmonds-Woodway
The Warriors lost a lot of key players after a superb season last year, and I doubted them coming into this season. I predicted they would finish sixth in the conference, and I was wrong as they finished third. Edmonds-Woodway has become a constant contender in the WESCO conference due to great coaching and a new batch of players.
They finished right behind the Spartans in points per game at 73 and played some solid defense as well all season long. One player that really stepped up this season was senior Keaton McKay, who was heavily relied upon for points. Another key player was freshman Mutdung Bol, who provided a spark off the bench majority of the games defensively and offensively.
Stanwood is Number One, Not Two
In my early predictions I predicted that Stanwood would finish second in the conference. I was close, but they finished first and didn’t lose a single conference game all year long. The Spartans have become a powerhouse in WESCO, but should also be feared come playoffs. They are averaging 77 points a game this season, and defensively they are allowing just 51 points per game.
Stanwood is currently ranked sixth in state and will be a dark horse candidate when state playoffs approach. With players like senior AJ Martinka, senior Quinton Borseth and junior Austin Wilhonen the Spartans have a lot to look forward to this season and next.
