Liam Lyman Wins Player of Week
Congratulations to Benet 2017 small forward Liam Lyman for winning this week’s PrepHoopsIllinois Player of the Week Award. He performed well in front of our Derrick Smith scoring 24 points against Stevenson earning the nomination. Lyman won the fan vote with 3,800+ votes for a share of 49% of the total votes cast.
Lyman is a 6’4” wing with good strength. Has the ability to stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting. Lyman is always ready to shoot especially off the catch with a quick release. We caught up with his to chat about his senior year.
“The season is going well. We have had some guys step into bigger roles this year which is great. I think my game has evolved into more of a complete game. Getting to the basket more, rebounding, playing better defense in the post and on the perimeter, and finding my teammates.”
Lyman talked about what he can bring to a team at the next level.
“Definitely shooting being able to stretch the floor. Also toughness and rebounding. Being able to take a charge. Willing to win. Especially being at Benet I am used to that.”
The senior had a strong July with the Illinois Stars.
“Summer with the Stars was great. I really got my feet wet with the guys in July. Started playing more and stepping up and playing better. Got more confidence once I saw shots go in.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have offers from Malone and Michigan Tech. Hillsdale is also interested.”
He broke down both programs he holds offers from.
Michigan Tech
“It is close. Seven hour drive maybe. I really like the campus up there. Decent size school. I like the style of play with shooters. I was on campus and saw them practice. I feel I would fit in well there. Really good education.”
Malone
“I was surprised with their campus. It is a little bit of a smaller school feel, but I really liked it. Getting to hang out with the guys.”
