St. Joseph 48- Brother Rice 46
In the Semifinal game of the Chicago Catholic League playoff. The St. Joseph Chargers survived a late push by Brother Rice. Here are the Fab Five performances from the game!
MVP: Jordan Boyd (2018) St. Joseph
The 6’6 Junior for St. Joes had a major presence in the paint all game long affecting the game is a variety of ways. Jordan Boyd was able to get in good position on the block and finish some nice moves with his back facing the basket. He also showed the ability to face up, and take his defender off the dribble. He was a force on the glass both on the defensive end and offensive end. He is a good athlete that has a good second jump. Boyd finished with 14 points and several key rebounds and blocks for St. Joes down the stretch.
Offensive Performance: Mike Shepski (2017) Brother Rice
Brother Rice’s senior guard kept them in the game with a game high 23 points. The Bemidji State commit was able to create off the dribble and did a nice job creating separation to either pull up for the jumper or drive to the lane. Mike Shepski has a high motor and was constantly finding ways to get the ball in the position to make a move in score which will be key as he moves on to the next level.
Best Passer: Marquise Walker (2019) St. Joseph
Marquise Walker gets the nod as best passer in the game, and it wasn’t close. He is a strong guard that has good handle and can get to the rim. He displayed good court vision often finding his teammates for the open layup after the defense collapsed. Walker did a good job running the show from the PG position. He also was a major scoring threat in the second half for St. Joes knocking down some big three’s and scoring off of dribble drive as well.
Best Rebounder: Jordan Boyd (2018) St. Joseph
Jordan Boyd’s second jump allows him to get those 50/50 tip balls of both ends of the court. He controlled the glass and does a nice job securing the rebound.
Best under the radar performance: Josh Niego
Josh Niego was faced with a tough task matching up against the Boyd brothers down low, but he held his own playing gritty on both ends. He made some timely buckets in the second half to keep Brother Rice close. Niego finished with 11 points scoring from mid-range or around the rim.
Play of the game: Marquise Walker to Jordan Boyd for the dunk
Marquise Walker showed off some slick handle on a dribble drive then found Jordan Boyd under the basket for the two handed slam as time expired in the 3Rd quarter.
