In the Semifinal of the CPS playoff the Simeon Wolverines defeated Whitney Young 60-49 to move on to the City Championship game Sunday at Chicago State University where they will face Morgan Park. Here is a scouting recap of the Fab Five performances for the game.
MVP: Messiah Jones – Simeon (2018)
Messiah Jones had a huge performance to lift Simeon past Whitney Young with 21 points 18 rebounds and 5 blocks The Forward plays a lot bigger than his actual size. He was able to get in good position on the block for baskets. Jones did a nice job finishing through contact, he flashed his jumping ability with 5 blocks and two monster dunks in the fourth to secure the win for Simeon. He was all over the glass with 18 boards.
Offense Performance: Javon Freeman- Whitney Young (2018)
Javon Freeman lead all scorers in the game with 26 points. The long 6’4 guard has major athleticism and is rangy. Freeman used his quickness to get to the rim and finish. He likes the dribble drive and is best out in transition, but also showed the ability to step out and hit from the perimeter. His athletic ability showed on a big chase down block. Freeman play kept Whitney Young in the game.
Defensive Performance: Talen Horton-Tucker- Simeon (2018)
The Junior helped limit Whitney Young’s Lucas Williamson to only 2 points. Horton-Tucker used his long arms to gets a couple big steals in the passing lanes and he finished with 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Best Rebounder: Messiah Jones – Simeon (2018)
Jones was a force on the glass all night on both ends totaling 18 rebounds.
Best Passer: Evan Gilyard – Simeon (2017)
UTEP commit Evan Gilyard was the key setup man on several occasions for buckets down the stretch especially when Simeon went on a 14-0 run to start the 4th quarter. He had a real nifty dribble drive assist to Messiah Jones for a dunk that was one of the plays of the game.
