Without Jordan Goodwin Althoff just hasn’t been the same, but they gave it everything they had especially senior CJ Coldon who was spectacular. It wasn’t enough however as Belleville West continues to roll as one of the best teams in the metro east behind a monster game from their inside duo of EJ Liddell and Tyler Dancy. They won 77-66. Check out our Fab 5: Belleville West vs Althoff to get the breakdown of the players in this game!
MVP
PF EJ Liddell (Belleville West – 2019)
This might have been the best we have ever seen the 6’7” power forward play. The state’s top 2019 four man was an absolute beast in this contest! He got to work early and often. Liddell went to his right handed jump hook which is his go to post move. Whenever he got touches in the post Liddell made quick and aggressive moves. Then got on the offensive glass for multiple put backs and tip ins. Also expanded his range as the game went on drilling multiple mid-range jumpers as well as a top of the key three. Ran the floor hard and had a transition dunk. Hit the glass on both ends of the floor rebounding both in and out of his area. Protected the rim throughout the night. Explosive leaper off the floor. Liddell went or 22 points, 12 boards, and 3 blocks. High-major prospect.
Best offensive performance
PG CJ Coldon (Althoff – 2017)
Coldon was outstanding in this game! The senior point guard got it going early with his perimeter shot. He was feeling it early from three point range drilling several of them. I believe he went on to hit five throughout the night. Also got to the rack with his quickness off the bounce. Great speed with the ball in his hands attacking the cup. Coldon had 31 points. He is committed to Wyoming for football.
Best rebounder
PF Tyler Dancy (Belleville West – 2017)
Dancy is an undersized post at probably about 6’5” to 6’6” that has a wide body. He is a crafty post that just gets things done on the interior. Excellent footwork on the block especially on his spin moves. Soft hands receiving the ball in traffic and also has a soft touch finishing around the cup. Really shot the ball well from the elbow and 15 feet in this game. Drilled several with great form. Quality area rebounder. Also had several blocks when defending straight up. Not an explosive vertical athlete Dancy does have good lateral mobility and that was shown throughout the night. Defensively he is a presence clogging up the lane. He had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Projects as a high level D3/NAIA prospect that will be awesome at that level.
Best passer
SG Edwyn Brown (Althoff – 2017)
Brown is a rangy wing that is slippery through traffic. He can be a little wild with the rock at times, but is best when he can use his big time athleticism in the open floor. Pushes the tempo where he hits runners and makes good passes to his teammates for buckets. Brown had 7 points. Committed to SEMO for football.
Best catch and shoot guy
SF Marvin Bateman (Althoff – 2017)
Bateman is a prospect that we have always enjoyed watching. The 6’4” wing just goes about his business. On Saturday night on his home floor he recorded his 1,000 point. It was only natural that it would come on a three. Bateman is a spot up shooter that is a beast off the catch. He drilled three triples off the catch in this game. Quick release with fluid mechanics. Bateman is a shooting specialist at the D2 level. Needs to be getting more attention! Finished with 12 points.
