Burke 54, Calhoun County 53
Marquez Watson made two free throws with 14.5 seconds left to lead the Bulldogs to the State Championships game. Calhoun County had two chances to score after Watson made the free-throw and never could cash them in. Terrance Brunson could not release and shoot the ball within the: 0.3 seconds at the end for the Calhoun County.
Burke was led by Anthony Hill (2017) 16 points and Algernard Young added 12 points. Also, Isaiah Holloway scored four of his six points in the first quarter for Bulldogs. Burke took a 28-23 lead to the halftime break against the Saints.
Calhoun County came out smoking in the second-half to take a 36-32 into the final quarter. The Saints were led by Terrance Brunson (2017) with 16 points and Camryn Johnson (2017) added 16 points.
Johnson has signed onto play at Georgia State University next season for football.
Calhoun County finishes the season at 18-7. Burke improves to 21-4 on the season.
Class 4A Lower State
Lower Richland 46 Wilson 43
Ja’Cor Nelson scored a game-high 20 points to advance the Diamond Hornets to Class 4A State Championship game. Nelson made back to back layups to give Lower Richland the lead at 37-35 early in the fourth quarter. Also, Clyde Trapp, Jr. (2017) who signed with Clemson scored seven points.
The Tigers took a 22-17 lead into the break was outscored in the third quarter by the Diamond Hornets 16-13 to make the score 35-33 going into the fourth quarter. Alex Caldwell (2018) led Wilson with 14 points and Jamal Bryant (2017) added 12 points in the loss. The Tigers’ almost sold out the Florence Civic Center to have their dreams shattered of a perfect season. The Tigers suffer there only loss of the season at the worst moment. Bryant, Blake Walker , and Jaylen Quick played their final games as Wilson Tigers.
Wilson ends the season at 21-1 and Lower Richland improves to 20-4.
