The Basketball Interview: Evan Gilyard
In our series The Basketball Interview we talk with one of the top players in the state of Illinois about a variety of topics both on and off the court. Today’s interview is with Simeon 2017 point guard and UTEP commit Evan Gilyard.
What is your favorite opposing gym to play in?
“Morgan Park because it is warm in there. It is like our gym. Good crowd and a good environment to play in”
Who is the best player you have played against?
“The most skilled I have played against was Jalen Brunson. He handles the game and plays at his pace. He doesn’t let anyone speed him up. Makes smart decisions.”
Who is your favorite player to play against?
“Nojel Eastern I am friends with. I enjoy playing against him. He is a good player.”
Which is your favorite social media?
“Twitter because it has a lot of information. You catch up on a lot of things.”
What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
“Going to different schools for visits and seeing different environments. See how college life is.”
What was your least favorite part of the recruiting process?
“The drives and flights was the least favorite part.”
High School or Grassroots Circuit?
“High school because it is not all up and down. It is more controlled. You have to play the game the right way. You have to multiple areas of your game.”
Who is your favorite NBA Player?
“Right now I would say I have two. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. LeBron because he is a stat sheet stuffer. He gets rebounds and assists. He makes his teammates better.”
What team not on your schedule would you want to play?
“Kenwood. We always want to play Kenwood because we are cool with them.”
Nike, Under Armour, or Adidas?
“Nike. They have the least injuries! I like Nike. They have some nice shoes.”
