Matt Kormylo ranked #41 out 50 in class of 2019 scored 25 points in the 56-52 overtime win against Liberty. Kormylo is a transfer from 22 ft Academy. The win improved the Sabres to 11-4 and dropped the Red Devils to 7-11.
PLAY OF the GAME: Kormylo go-ahead scored
Matt Kormylo scored the go-ahead basket with 3:30 left in the extra session to give the Sabres a 53-51 lead.
BEST Offensive Performance: Matt Kormylo-SouthSide Christian-2019
Kormylo came out and scored 11 points in the first half. Kormylo had three assists and six rebounds.
Best Defensive Performance: Timmy Doyle-Southside Christian- 2017
Doyle’s presents made the Red Devils shoot the ball from the perimeter. Doyle would challenge every shot inside the paint and near the rim.
Intangibles: Southside Christian Offense
When Kormylo and Doyle left the court in the second quarter the Sabres only scored two points. The Red Devils went on a run to cut the lead to three points going into halftime at 26-23.
Best Player off the Bench: Zane Boozer-Liberty-2019
Boozer is a 6’6 center that comes off the bench to score seven points for the Red Devils. Boozer has the ability to step out and shoot the the three.
Best Underclassman: Matt Kormylo-SouthSide Christian-2019
Matt is a 6’3 SG for the Sabres. Kormylo has quick feet and will take control of the basketball game. Matt will drive to the basket and step out to shoot the three. Kormylo will take contact to make sure scores the basket. Matt passes the ball when the defense collapses on him to an open the man.
Under the Radar: Parker Burgess-Liberty- 2019
Burgess is 6’3 point-guard that will drive to hole and shoot the three. Burgess controls the offense by setting up the plays and passes the ball to open man.
Project: Chris Chumney-Southside Christian-2019
Chumney is a 6’0 combo guard for the Sabres. Chumney is the third option for the Sabres when Doyle and Kormylo.
Takeaway:
Southside Christian sent the home crowd happy in the overtime win against Region foe Liberty. The Sabres almost let the game go in the third quarter by going scoreless for four minutes and let the Red Devils tie the game at 42. This is the first year for the Sabres in Class 2A after being in Class A since the program started in the SCHSL. The Sabres also have a first year Rick Remer. Liberty is a very young team and will be a force in Region 2-2A in the future.
