Carter ranked #110 out of 125 in Prep Hoops SC ranking scored 19 points in an 80-70 win over Indian Land in the Class 3A playoffs. The win improved Clinton to 19-3 and they will host Pendleton at 7 p.m. on Friday in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. Indian Land finished the season at 6-15.
Play of the Game: Zay Hurley-Clinton (2018) made free -throw
Hurley made two free-throws with 2:00 left to extend the lead to 71-65. Indian Land had cut the Red Devils lead to three.
Best Offensive Performance: Jalen Carter-Clinton (2017)
Carter scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half. Carter was key to spark runs by the Red Devils in the second half to extend the lead.
Best Defensive Performance: Zay Hurley- Clinton (2018)
Hurley made several defensive stop in the paint for the Red Devils. Hurley defensive rebounds led to easy fast break for the Red Devils. Hurley was all over the rim for put backs and rebounds.
Intangibles: Indian Land lack of rebounds
The Warriors had about six total rebounds in the game. In critical moment s of the game the Warriors would not crash the boards or block out.
Best Guy off the Bench: RJ Suber-Clinton (2017)
Suber had the honor to defend Alston and Clark tonight whenever he was in the game. Suber according to Coach Romines is the teams defensive specialist.
Best Underclassmen: Shamon Alston-Indian Land (2019)
Alston is 6’5 shooting guard that is ranked #32 out of 50 in the Prep Hoops SC ranking for the Warriors. Alston scored 17 points in the game. Alston would step out and shoot the outside three or drive to the basket for the score.
Best Guy under the Radar: Destin Clark-Indian Land (2020)
lark is a 6’1 big bodied combo guard for the Warriors. Clark has the ability to draw contact and score in traffic. Clark just a freshman scored 15 points tonight in the defeat.
Best Project: Tai Gilbert –Indian Land (2018)
Gilbert is a 5’10 guard for the Warriors possesses quick hands.
Takeaway:
he Red Devils won their 1st Region title since 2006. Head Coach Eddie Romines is in his first year leading the Red Devils squad. Indian Land is in the first year of moving up in classification from Class 2A to Class 3A. Last year the Warriors finished second in Region 4-2A and made it to the second round of the playoffs.
