Lyde scored a game-high 26 points and dished out nine assist in the 69-55 win over High Point Academy in the first round of Class A playoffs. Lyde also had two exclamation dunk to seal the win for the Whirlwinds. Timmonsville improves to 13-9 will travel to Williston-Elko in Class A playoffs. High Point Academy finished the season at 4-18.
Play of the Game: Aaron Rivers-Timmonsville (2017)
Rivers layup and was foul for a three point to give the Whirlwinds a 51-47 lead with six minutes left in the game.
Best Offense Performance: Jayden Byrd-High Point Academy (2020)
Byrd scored 22 points and made six three pointer and had eight assists for the Wildcats.
Best Defensive Performance: Aaron Rivers-Timmonsville (2017)
Rivers made several defensive stops in the paint for the Whirlwinds. Rivers grabbed critical rebounds in the final quarter to propel Timmonsville. Rivers help extend his career as Whirlwinds for at least one more game.
Intangibles: Underclassmen Talent
Timmonsville and High Point have a great young talent team for years to come. The Whirlwinds will depend on in the future from Rasheim Lyde and JaMaric Morris to take the place of Aaron Rivers next year. High Point has two talent young players that will help them in the coming years as a young school in Class A.
Best Guy off the Bench: Caleb Sansbury-Timmonsville (2017)
Sansbury came in the game to give the Whirlwinds more help to guard the perimeter against High Point Academy.
Best Underclassmen: Rasheim Lyde-Timmonsville (2019)
Lyde is 6’3 point guard for the Whirlwinds. Lyde led the offense and is very aggressive defender. Lyde is quick to hole and will on occasion dunk the ball.
Best Guy under the Radar: Jayden Byrd –High Point Academy (2020)
Byrd is a 6’0 shooting guard for the Wildcats. Byrd made six three-pointers tonight for the Wildcats. Byrd is in his first year of varsity basketball was home-schooled up to start of the school year.
Best Project: Doc Smith – Timmonsville (2018)
Smith is a 6’5 center for the Whirlwinds. Smith has long wing span and rangy forward.
Takeaway:
The boys and girls program played a doubleheader today since both teams were playing each other in the 1st Round. High Point Academy is in there 1st season playing in the SCHSL after playing in a Home School League prior to this year. The Wildcats have an enrollment of less than 50 kids .High Point Academy is located in Spartanburg.
