The Porter Gaud Cyclones sweated out a tough win vs a scrappy Hammond team today 43-32. The Cyclones were led in scoring by Jake Lanford in the post with 13 points. Lanford gave problems to the smaller Skyhawks lineup in the post blocking and challenging shots all day long.
Play of the Game : Cyclones run before the half
The Cyclones were up 10-8 with 7:22 in the 2nd quarter. The Cyclones went on a 13-0 run before the Skyhawks finished the half with a 3 point basket by Lucas Prickett with 2.1 seconds left. The Cyclones led at 23-11 heading into halftime.
Josiah James
Best Offensive Performance : Josiah James – Porter Gaud (2019)
James is just so smooth on the floor with his game and skill set. James hit a couple three pointers to start the game and finish with 10 points in the win.
Best Defensive Performance : Jake Lanford – Porter Gaud (2018)
Lanford gave fits all day in the paint with block shots. The Skyhawks were just no match in the paint with the Cyclones.
Best Intangibles : Aaron Nesmith (2018) and Josiah James – Porter Gaud (2019)
Nesmith and James have both seen plenty of action on the varsity for the past few seasons and on the AAU circuit. Nesmith is ranked #3 in the Prep Hoops Top 80 in the Junior class. James is #2 in the Prep Hoops Top 50 2019 class.
Best Guy off the Bench : NA
Best Under the Radar Performance : Lucas Prickett – Hammond (2018)
Prickett just plays his butt off sporting a nose guard. Prickett sacrifices his game for the best of the team while playing inside the paint. Prickett finished with 14 points in the loss today.
Best Underclassmen : Josiah James – Porter Gaud (2019)
James has already received High Major interest and he only keeps to be getting better and better every time I see him play.
Best Project to Watch : Harrison Whatley – Porter Gaud (2018)
Whatley has been hurt and saw very limited time here today for the Cyclones. Whatley backs up Lanford and stands at 6’8
Best Takeaway :
The Cyclones move to (22-4) on the season and will now play Friday in the Final 4.
Hammond finished the season at (16-12) under first year Head Coach David Ross. The Skyhawks had a great game plan for the Cyclones but just missed on some chances to get closer.
