Attucks started out slow, getting behind 6-13 early in the game. However, a 22-point second quarter got them right back in the lead but Tech wasn’t about to die. They were able to disrupt the flow for Attucks and had a chance at the end. After the whistle, it was Attucks heading on to face Indianapolis Manual on Saturday night for a chance at the Championship game.
MVP: Nike Sibande (Crispus Attucks)
While this was a sloppy game from start to finish, Sibande did have his moments. The 6’3 wing has gone away from his jump shot in order for him to be more of a driving scorer. He’s got the handles to create in the midrange and finish at the rim although he left a few short. Once he puts in a little more time and then incorporates his jumper back in, he could be a good all-around scorer. He had 21 points in the game.
Best Offensive Performance: Ernest Myles (Arsenal Tech)
The best offensive player of the night was Myles. The big 6’5 forward was doing it all. He had his mid-range jumper working and scoring faced up and with his back to the basket on the low block. He finished with 18 points and the variety of ways he did it was impressive. Has become a college prospect in the last year with his developement.
Best Defensive Performance: Teyon Scanlan (Crispus Attucks)
Scanlan seemed to always be at the head of the defensive effort for Attucks as he kept turning over Tech, especially in key spots down the stretch. He’s small but that makes him even tougher on the defensive end as he gives max effort and that quickness is huge as well. He finished with 8 points in a good all-around performance.
Best Intangibles: Jamal Harris (Crispus Attucks)
Jamal Harris has come a long way in the last year as a scoring weapon. He’s supremely athletic and everything he does is built around that and his scoring around the rim on drives and transition has improved as well as his defense. He can do so many things at a decent level or better that he’s a great weapon to have for Attucks. Finished with 10 points on the night.
Best Under-The-Radar Performance: Willie Patterson (Arsenal Tech)
One player that kind of surprised with Patterson. The 6’5, physical forward is a bully in the post and plays really tough. He’s still pretty raw in terms of basketball skill but with his energy and body, you can see a path for him down the road. He’s got a lot of areas to like and with some time, he could be a good college player.
